We are an arboricultural consultancy company located in Cumbria and with bases in Northamptonshire and West Lothian, making the logistics of working UK-wide cost effective.

Bruce Hatton is director and principal consultant of BHA Trees Ltd and has been working in the arboricultural industry since 1987, initially “hands-on” with his contracting business Treemenders, before expanding his experience through study to become an arboricultural consultant.

He formed Bruce Hatton & Associates in 1997, becoming incorporated as BHA Trees Ltd in 2009.

Our company provides arboricultural reports covering development, tree condition, health & safety, general management, expert witness, subsidence, and veteran trees.

We carry out BS5837 surveys for individuals, schools, businesses, architects and developers, giving advice on tree-related construction methodology and an impact assessment on tree stock.

Bruce is a Fellow of the Arboricultural Association and a Chartered Arboriculturalist with the Institute of Chartered Foresters.

He is an expert witness with experience of planning appeals and representing Local Authorities in their prosecution of those who breach legislation.

In particular, Bruce specialises in tree hazard assessment using visual tree assessment (VTA) and internal decay detection equipment (Picus Tomograph and Resistograph).

He has a particular interest in tree-based aerial ropes courses, planning new courses and inspecting existing courses to assess safety and to improve methods of equipment attachment.
